What are bollard
covers? For that matter what is a bollard?
Before we discuss bollard covers
let us see what a bollard is:
- In the Nautical sense of the word they are a thick post
on a ship or wharf, used for securing ropes and hawsers.
- Chiefly British; One of a series of posts preventing
vehicles from entering an area.
In other words they are those ugly concrete posts that spontaneously
seem to grow out of the ground. Bollards are usually used
to either block cars and trucks from passing through or to
protect equipment, building, machines, etc. We have all seen
them at our banks, drive up windows, and many other places.
However, it does not seem that all bollards are created equal.
Some are bright colors, clean, and pretty, while others are
dirty, chipped and ugly. What is the difference between the
two?
- It could be that the nice bollards are new and the ugly
one's are old
- It could be that the nice bollards have been recently
painted and the old one's have not
- Or more likely the nice bollards have what is called a
bollard cover whereas the
ugly ones do not.
Bollard covers are plastic
sleeves that fit over an existing bollard. No matter how dirty,
ugly, cracked or chipped a bollard is, a bollard
cover will make it look new, clean, and professional.
Bollard covers are not only meant for outdoor use. There are
many times that bollards are used indoors as well. Manufacturing,
warehouses, even grocery stores can use Bollard covers.
A bollard cover is constructed
from 1/8" thick Polyethylene (HDPE and MDPE). Bollard
Covers can also have 2 stripes of reflective tape wrapped
around the top for identification or reflection. Innoplast
